17 photos from Milford Sound, New Zealand (2011)
Lisa and I took a day trip from Queenstown to Milford Sound via a bus tour. Unfortunately, the day was plagued by less-than-ideal weather, but we still had a good time! The bus driver/tour guide had an awesome accent and filled our brains with absorbing information. During the tour we visited the Matheson Lake (Mirror Lake) and a tumultuous waterfall before reaching the main attraction: a boat cruise through Milford Sound. Fun fact: A sound is often formed by the sea flooding a river valley, while a fjord is a long, narrow inlet with steep sides or cliffs, created in a valley carved by glacial activity. Technically, Milford Sound is actually a fjord.
