About the website and myself.

Basically, my overall vision for this site is to create something fun, informational, and interactive. I have some lofty goals and visitors will continue to see this web site evolve as I expand my web-development know-how.

My name is Adam Shrimplin and I currently live in the great state of Texas and work for a consulting firm. I have my undergrad and postgraduate degrees in Accountancy from the University of Texas at Austin and I obtained my CPA for good measure. Though my formal training was in Accountancy, my hobbies include DJing, producing music, developing this website, reading, and painting (er, I try, at least). A life goal of mine is to keep my mind youthful and curious, no matter my age.

Below is a photo of my current DJ Setup. Peruse the photo with your mouse to access areas for additional information.

DJ Setup
  • Technics SL-1200 M3D Turntable

Direct drive turntable with a high torque motor and +/- 8% pitch adjustment. Absolute turntable elegance.

  • Vestax PCV-275 Mixer and Sennheiser SP-25 II Headphones

The "controls" of a DJ setup. The Vestax PCV-275 is a fairly standard three channel mixer - solid build. The coolest feature: three band isolator switches which eliminates each frequency range completely

Sennheiser SP-25 II closed headphones have great range and are built Ford tough. A nice buy for any listener (~$100).

  • Fortune

I love Asian food and fortune cookies. This one reads:

"Your love of music will be an important part of your life."

Oh, and the lucky numbers are "2, 3, 17, 29, 30, 32." And no, I will not require royalties from any winnings.

  • Session Records

I like to mix only using a case full of music (~80 records) so I don't over think my next mix. I frequently substitute records from my collection to keep things fresh.

  • Part of My Record Collection

This part of collection is composed of ~95% Drum and Bass vinyl, with a smattering of other electronic music. Since I am a nerd, I organized my vinyl by record label in the interest of search time. I feel privileged having been able to grow up DJing with vinyl.

  • Picture Disk

Cool deviation from the standard black vinyl (gramophone record), but can be a pain for me to mix with since I normally have a difficult time see the grooves.

Fun fact: vinyl is made from polyvinyl chloride; the same material PVC piping is made from.

  • My Diamondback BMX Bike!

My commuter bike I purchased for $75. I like to keep it "g'real" (green and real). Unfortunately, I cannot do any flashy tricks, but I do have pegs! Due to doctor's (Lisa) orders, I always wear a helmet.

  • Sand Dollar

  • Klipsch ProMedia 2.1

Where I get my "boom boom" from. This system includes two 35-watt satellite speakers and a hefty subwoofer that blasts up to 130 watts of bass output via a side-firing 6.5-inch-long throw driver. I got these speakers off of eBay for close to $50 dollars and they BUMP! Highly recommended for ballers on a budget.

  • Lobby Lobster

She is a lobbyist who pays me good money to play music she likes. Hey, don't judge, I gotta eat. Courtesy of Lisa.

  • Scantron

A true groupie in every sense of the word (except it's all platonic love). No matter what time I hop on the decks - Scantron is there. No matter what horrible mixes I throw together - Scantron is still bobbing to the music. Courtesy of Lisa.

  • Sea Biscuit

  • Shure Whitelabel DJ Turntable Cartridges

These are the needles I use and the sound and overall quality is fantastic. Oh, and they come with a real nice travel box; definitely worth the money spent.

Fun fact: Diamond is the standard stylus (needle) material.
